For something quieter, Marco Island South Beach Public Access at 870 County Rd 951 pulls a 4.7 from 1,714 reviews. It is a straight shot down the island, less crowded, and the sand is packed hard enough for an easy walk. The smaller accesses along South Collier Blvd are worth knowing. Marco Island Public Beach Access at 290 S Collier Blvd rates 4.5 from 399 reviews. Public Beach Access at 414-600 S Collier Blvd rates 4.6 from 378 reviews. Residents' Beach at 130 S Collier Blvd rates 4.6 from 420 reviews, but check the rules—it is in the name.

Alvin's Island - Marco Island #320 at 1001 N Collier Blvd is listed as a beach, which is odd, but it rates 4.7 from 1,101 reviews and sits right across from the water. It is a shop, not a beach, so use it as a landmark.

The Post-Walk Stop

A beach day with a dog is thirsty work. Dolphin Tiki Bar & Grill at 1021 Anglers Cove rates 4.4 from 1,963 reviews and sits right on the water at the marina. It is an outdoor spot, which helps with a wet dog.

Sand Bar at 826 E Elkcam Cir #107 rates 4.3 from 1,475 reviews. It is inland, off the main drag, and tends to draw a local crowd. Marco Island Brewery at 1089 N Collier Blvd rates 4.0 from 720 reviews and is the closest thing the island has to a proper taproom. None of these are dog parks. They are bars. But they are outdoor bars, and on Marco Island, outdoor means dog-friendly by default.

The Non-Beach Option

If the dog has had enough salt water, Mackle Park at 1361 Andalusia Terrace rates 4.8 from 561 reviews. It is the best-rated park on the island, named for the same Mackle brothers who built the place. It has grass, shade, and a walking loop. A Note on History

The Key Marco Cat, a carved wooden figure recovered in Frank Hamilton Cushing's 1896 expedition, is one of the finest pre-Columbian artworks found in North America. It is on display at the Marco Island Historical Museum, on loan from the Smithsonian. The museum is not dog-friendly. Leave the dog at the beach for that one.

The Calusa lived here from about 500 CE. The Mackles bought the land for $7 million and turned it into a retirement and tourist destination in a single decade. The island's name long predates its development; the Key Marco name attaches to the archaeological site that made it famous.

Your dog will not read any of this. He will just be happy you brought him somewhere with a 4.3 rating and a place to pee. That is the whole point.
